In the Shadows of Tornados

This is my first post and was hoping for some help with my build.

My thought is to use Wizard’s Twister skill as the primary attack.

The build:

Mythics: [ Effective, Energy, Sanctuary, Exposed ]

Sets: [ Shadows, Plagued, Pathfinder, Haunting Bonus ]

Crystals: [ Crit Chance, Crit Dmg, Block, Dodge, 2x Deadly Strike ]

Legends: [ Ignore Resist, Double Strike, 2x Dexterity, 2x All Elementalist, Wpn Dmg%, Elmnt Dmg% ]

Epics: [ 2x Reduced CD, 2x Twister+, Wizardry, Element Crit%, Block ]

Mythstones: [ 2x Zenith, 2x Clarity, 4x Elixer ]

I have the two masters to increase the proc chance of shadows explosion. I have the two clarities for more spells and the haunting bonus.

Natures: [ 2x Death, 4x Elements ]

Talents: 40 Wizardry, 40 Sorcery, 40 Amplify, 40 Magnify, 40 Fester ]

Heroic Skills: [ 40 Twister, 40 Dexterity ]

As you can see, I have a few slots open for Sets. From my planning, it also looks like I have 2 slots open on a pet.

Thoughts on ways to make this better?

Edit 1: Replaced Masters with Zenith, add 2x Deadly Strike, Replaced one of the Wizardry+ with epic Element Crit%. Since items cant have more than one of the same affix, getting exposed the list wasnt working. By making it the epic element crit, it can be placed on the pet.

the chance for explosions from Shadows Set are not Procs and are only affected by Shadows Set Rank. 5% chance for explosion per Rank.

the synergy of Shadows with Plagued is genius! especially for Wizard with Sorcery, Amplify & Fester!

maybe change the 2 Master to 2 Twister Procs for +50% chance to Proc a Twister when you cast any skill. the skill points in Twister will affect the Twister from the Proc for lots more damage & DPS.

if you can fit a Maelstrom Item for the Set affix in your build, Maelstrom (5) would increase the damage of the Twister Proc by +37.5%.

adding Maelstrom leaves you with 12 spaces, 3 on the Pet (if you are using a Legend Pet with a Set like Pathfinder or Plagued, only 2 spaces need to be filled on Pet). maybe +20% Poison & +5000 Poison for the Pet, plus one more of your choice if you are using an Epic Pet. if you want to max out Crit damage, 2 Epic +75% Crit DMG.

go with 2 Crystal +30% Deadly Strike. with this build, this give you 40% normal damage, 24% Crit DMG, and 36% Deadly Strike (double Crit DMG). your eyes will pop out of your head in amazement from the Deadly Strike DMG. with one Zenith Mythstone on chest or Head for +50% Pierce chance and Exposed Mythic on Chest, Pierced enemies take +50% DMG. if it’s only the Pierce attacks that get the +50% DMG, it’s still good, or use 2 Zenith for every attack getting +50% DMG (haven’t tested, so not sure if 1 Zenith is good enough or 2 is better).

hope this helps.

As usual, @Golem comes through with some great advice.

Even adding a single Crystal 30% Deadly Strike affix would make a significant difference.

I like the build and there is room to grow. :+1:

On my OH I have been loving having the special Mirror Image. Is there a way, as a wizard, to increase the dmg done by the mirrors’ atks? What about the longevity of them?

On a different question, I was trying to get the legend Ohmen for my Wizard. Its probably not really necessary, per se, but I like the name. However, everytime I try to add the mythic to it, it loses the name. Thoughts on how to prevent this?

@Golem will give you the rundown. :+1:

for the Mirror Image, you have 2 choices or can use both.

  1. on your Pet put Mirror Image +10 or
  2. on the MH & OH weapons, put +5 All Skills for +10 All Skills.

this will give you 10 skill points in Mirror Image, or +20 if you do both. what this gives you is

  1. +5% DMG per Rank. the Mirror Image(s) do more OH damage.
  2. +1% Summon DMG per Rank. the Mirror Image(s) do even more OH damage.
  3. -0.5% Cooldown per Rank. less waiting for the next Mirror Image.
  4. +1% per Rank Spell Duration. the Mirror Image(s) hang around longer.

the name change of a Legend from adding a Mythic affix is a bug that happens sometimes. it’s known by the Dev’s, and since it doesn’t really affect the performance of the affixes on the Item… I think back in the day, they fixed some of the bugs that do this, but not all of them. at a minimum, but it in a Bug Report.

Here I am uploading an example of what the build could look like

there is no way for an Amulet to have Block unless using a hack/mod app or giving a big enough donation to ShinyBox that they make a unique Amulet with a Block affix for you. I’d replace it with a Legend Blight so when you get Toxic, it does 800% Toxic DoT DMG instead of 400%.

Rage (5) with +60% Crit Chance and a Crystal +225% Crit Damage will get you the +350% Crit DMG cap, so you don’t need the 4 Strength Natures or the Epic +75% Crit DMG. Make the Natures 4 Elements and the Epic on the Pet +20% Poison DMG for +40% Poison DMG.

since you have Epic Wizardry on the Pet, have the Talents’ Sorcery on Chest, Amplify on Head, Magnify on Ring and Fester on Amulet.

try changing the Epic Elemental Crit (Toxic) on the Pet to +5000 Poison. if you feel the extra damage isn’t worth only having +30% Toxic with Wizardry 30, then switch it back. or go for an Epic MirrorImage +10

are you going to have MirrorImage as the OH Special Skill? asking because of Identity Set.

the rest of the build looks really good.

Too bad about the epic block affix. I thought i read on here that warrior legends can get epic block affixes on any items. Is there anyway to get it? Is the loss of that 15% block worth it? Im quite bad at math, particularly probability.

Yes, inwas planning on having the MirrorImage OH special. Its fun, puts a TON of twisters on the screen, which im hopimg are affected by the skill but isnt that important if not. Its probably better to go for a taunt oh, or something else but i lile the mirrorimage skill

OH weapons are the only Items that you can get Block with Crystals. there are 2 or 3 Warrior MH weapons, and 1 each of Warrior Chest, Head, and Ring Items that have a Block affix. look in the LegendEx > Warrior to find the Items. also, Pets never have Block.

60% Block & Dodge is 84% chance for enemy to miss you.
45% Block & 60% Dodge is 78% chance for enemy to miss you.

I’ve used +60% Dodge & +45% Block on my Wizard with & without Sanctuary and done well with it. there are other factors that make it easier or harder for enemies to hit you. play style & the build make a difference.

I was looking at the Deadly Strike, which gives a chance to deal 2x dmg, wouldnt putting in 200% Weaken plus Effective always deal 200% dmg? Or at least something close to that?

damage affected by Weaken & Effective Mythic is calculated before the check for Critical Hit.

Deadly Strike is % chance on Critical Hit to do 2x Critical Damage. if you only had a +10% Deadly Strike on your Items:

90% of Attacks would do 1x Normal Damage.
9% of Attacks would do 1.5x Critical Damage.
1% of Attacks would do 3x Deadly Strike Damage.

if you have +60% Crit Hit & +60% Deadly Strike with +350% Crit DMG:

40% of Attacks would do 1x Normal Damage.
24% of Attacks would do 5x Critical Damage.
36% of Attacks would do 10x Deadly Strike.

Fire, Poison, & Bleed DoT’s have a chance to cause Crit Hits & Deadly Strikes.
Arcane Orbit has a chance to cause Crit Hits & Deadly Strikes.

hope this helps.

Wow! I was massively misunderstanding how the math works! Im going to have to reformat my build again.

haha! it took me awhile to figure out how some of the calculations & formulas worked.

the hardest thing is figuring out your DPS with 2+ attacks at the same time with effects like Procs & Elements Set giving more attacks and adding DoT damage from Blood, Fire & Poison, and impossible DPS like DMG from something like Orbit and any DMG that scales up or down… I just try to figure out the easy stuff and extrapolate (guesstimate) the harder stuff.

let me know if you ever need an example of how to do some of the math or equations.

I was reading the forum and was not able to find any info on the following questions:

I used a Skulldraga with a Zenith pierce and the attacks never once went through the enemy. When I use comet, it does not go through the enemy. What exactly is pierce besides a proc for Exposed?

If I have a hireling that has prismatic on it, amd it throughs all the elements on the mob, will Amplify get affected?

If my hireling is using guided shot, which has pierce, will Exposed on my main work?

do you have the Zenith on a Chest or Head Item?

from what I understand, not all Skills will ‘Pierce’ through an enemy when using Zenith. with one Zenith there is a 50% chance for an enemy to be Pierced and with two a 100% chance. an enemy will be considered Pierced even if the Skill didn’t physically Pierce it.

Pierce isn’t a Proc, it is a condition placed on an enemy, like Bleed or Slow. Some Skills that are considered Projectiles that normally hit an enemy and are done will instead pass through an enemy and hit the next enemies until it has reached it’s maximum range. Skills affected by Living Force would be considered Projectiles.

Main & Hireling with Prismatic/Ascendant: you might want to test that, but I think a one or dual element Wizard main with Amplify with a Hireling with Prismatic/Ascendant should work. I’ve always wanted to test that but I always get distracted by other DQ stuff. the reason I think it does work is because a Main & Hireling who both have Shock Builds can debuff an enemy up to 8 Shock debuff stacks (four each) for +100% damage.

the Main with Exposed & Hireling with a Piercing skill… for this I think it wouldn’t work, but it is also something I haven’t tested. I think this way because Weaken only works for the Main or Hireling that has Weaken on their build.

those were some tough questions. if someone who knows more than me knows any of the answers, please share!

Ok, I did some testing. I was on floor 200 mythic 3, i peeled of all affixes from my wizard, made sure that he had amplify and fester. I used the SkullShield skill. On the mage type enemies, without any DoTs, I did 50.2k dmg. After my rogue attacked and applied a DoT, usually arcane or fire for some reason, the SkullShield damage went up to 70.Xk damage (the x is a number I don’t remember). It seems like Amplify works for hirelings DoTs. I think, but it was hard to see, that the DoT was also refreshed by Fester as well.

More tests could be useful.

Here is an updated attempt on the build. I replaced the pierce chance with 2 epic bleed chances, i replaced exposed with ruptured, i swapped the dexterity on the amulet for dexterity and Dmg to Elites on the OH. I swapped out the amulet with frightening choker so i can get the ED%. I swapped Energy for Equality/Equivalence.

I plan on getting Intelligence to 20 and, with equality/equivalence i hope to be able to handle the .5s cd that is on Twister. Currently, I decided to go for Taunt as the OH special, which with my current cdr should have about a 2.5s cd. I was thinking about making the element for the OH electric so to help with Amplify dmg, should give me 160% dmg on almost every mob I fight. Along with the planned hireling doing fire and ice, that should net me another 160% extra dmg. With Plagued/Shadows, my DoTs should be doing around 100% - 800% of the dmg done, with Toxic doing even more. If I’m understanding Fester correctly, each hit of the Twister will refresh any DoTs on the mob and make them tic faster. If my count is correct I have 7ish dmg multipliers.
